We saw one last summer at the Jackspot while spearfishing under seabass pots, but this guy was tagged at the Fenwick shoals. He scared the shit out of me, otherwise I wouldnt have probably shot him. Anyone caught one this far north? pics at post below: (edit by admin, please post pixs not links)

That's interesting seeing them up here. So... did you eat it? Down south we wouldn't eat them because a lot of times they've got poisons in them from eating poisonous reef fish. (Message edited by right_hook on July 10, 2010) Steve P.

Amen Steve...ciguatera poison, which can mess you up big-time with all sorts of neurological problems from which you may not ever recover. It's mostly found in those large predators that feed on reef fishes. Wahoo can also have it. http://www.emedicinehealth.com/wilderness_ciguatera_toxin/article_em.htm |

I'll take my chances with wahoo! Despite the poison thing, cudas arent known for being good table fair, period. The good news is a cuda has wondered up already, why havent those tastey wahoo! I think one of the Sunset Marina boats (not sure) landed one last week. I thought it was a little early, but a good sign. Serious hobby bordering on psychotic obsession

Nice job Mike! And everyone thought I was crazy when I told them I saw one in the bay about a week and a half ago. He was about 2 feet long and on the flats west of Horn Island north of the 50 bridge. Water was crystal clear and there is no doubt what it was. He was busting a small school of bait on the surface. Tragedy and comedy in fishing are practically synonymous. It depends on who is looking and who is doing. To the former most incidents are funny, though to the latter they may be supremely tragical. - Zane Grey
