can someone tell me how to follow the bouys from masseys ramp to get to the inlet? I always seem to have trouble after leaving masseys and making the right...do you still have to hug the small island ...don't feel like sucking sand goin thru there

If you mean the area before Pot Nets Seaside, your right in sticking close to the small island as the sand bar is bigger than ever. Stick close to the day marker and you should be ok.

Might be easier going staight out of massey's and going through flounder alley. If you have ever fished there. It is about 10ft all the way. Better water than the bouy line. Stay in the center of the two islands and you will be fine. You can see the shoals. Good luck capt.

I go the way Nick goes. Much better and safer than the long way once you learn it and have it plotted on your GPS.

Looking at that picture it makes me wonder why the channel markers aren't over on that route?

It probably takes an act of god to permanently move the navigation channel. Also that channel leads to several entrances to marinas and if they moved the channel those marinas may not be accessible. They would also have to move the junction point east to the middle of the main channel and it does get tight right there.
They could put 'unofficial' markers in the route I have marked out perhaps though?

What Nick said about "an act of God"...
I spoke with Capt Bill Baker today who is on the inland bays committee. He said something to the effect that they've been trying to get a new channel marked marking an alternate channel but the rules governing these actions require 3ft mean low water minimum and a process that takes a great deal of time. So the bottom line is the existing channel could become un-navigable and we still could see nothing done for a very long time.

Nick's route Just remember to stay to the right of the bouys on the backside of burtons islands when going out!! When coming in stay to the left.. Then make your hook on the backside of burtons heading back to masseys..

Careful with the last green can before Masseys coming from Seaside. You need to be on the WRONG side of the can or you will be on the sand....
