This past Sat. I was fishing under IR Bridge and had a ABU Garcia Bait casting rod and (Red) ABU model 6000 (I believe) bait casting reel take the plunge into the briny sea. I reached for it but it went down like a rock. I wasn't fishing it yet but as I was getting another pole out of a pole holder next to it and the ABU rod caught on the pole I was pulling out and fell in. If anyone finds it and is feeling kind enough to return it I would be very appreiciative. It's my oldest and most favorite bait caster that I use in the bay. BUT....In the event it doesn't show up, anyone have any advise on what low profile bait casting models are out their now and which ones to look at. I probably would mount it on something like a St. Croix. |

If I was really the "Fishmaster" I probably wouldn't be on this site.

I bought an Avet a few months ago and no problems so far. It is close in size to the Abu 6500. The avet has an incredible amount of drag. I can cast baits or rip tog up out of the rocks. It sits nice on the St. Croix Premier, 6'6", 12-25lbs, fast action rod. |

I bought an Avet MC caster a couple months back and that thing is the best casting and all around baitcaster I have ever had. I have an accurate too which is great for bottom fishing and trolling but it doesn't cast well. I have had a bunch of abu garcias which cast great but the drag isn't so good and they wear out to quickly, especially the internal mechanism that takes it in and out of freespool. Looking/reading into the Avet's they seem like nice reels, but a little large and heavy for what I had invisioned. The ABU I sent swimming was a round reel. A buddie I was fishing with at the time of the pole going in has a St. Croix set up with a low profile bait caster He let me fish it for awhile and it instantly felt like a great floundering/jigging/twitching set up. And low and behold I could cast it, always had truobles casting a baitcaster but that is due to my lack of experiance being mostly a saltwater guy. The reel just felt like it was the perfect feel for that style of fishing. Looking at the Avet web site it looked to me like these were all round reels. Is this the case? |

The one I have is round, (pretty sure they all are) the same size as an abu and fits in your hand good. I use it primarily for flounder but it will handle a big fish too. The drag is incredible. Your Delaware Realtor. See all the listings at: http://dansander.remax.com/default.aspx
